Corporate Industrial Photography

Corporate Industrial Photography

Final Image:

The shoot went pretty well. I ended up ditching the initial idea with the light bouncing off the metal sheets and changed the umbrela for a small softbox. I found it hard to make the coulours interesting in post prod as everything looked really dull at first.  The green filter worked fine for matching the florecsent lights.

Pre Prod:

1. What is your intention in terms of how you plan to use the available light?

I will use a lot of the ambient light but tone it down to create a bit of ambience

2. What is the reason for your lens choice?

It's a very small space so I need something wide enough to be able to get enough of the subject in the frame and also I'd like to get some distortion so the subjects looks bigger then bgr an dstands out.

3. What aperture do you plan to use and why?

f/8 if possible to get a big enough dof

4. What shutter speed to you plan to use and why?

1/30 or 1/45

5. Do you have enough available light to achieve these camera settings ?

I think so plus I'm using flash to bring out the subject

6. Do you have enough strobe to achieve these settings?

yes.

7. Do you have too much light to achieve these settings?

Maybe since the light will have to be so close to subject in which case I will either go to a smaller apperture or use neutral density filters

8. Are there any technical problems that will need to be addressed at the shoot or in post-production?

Mixing the colour balances between ambiant and flash.
Figuring out where to place the lights in the small area

9. How will you be addressing color balance?

Grey card.

10. What is the equipment you will need for the shoot?

- 18-55mm

- Softbox small/maybe umbrealla

- 2 whithe lightning

-vagabond

- Snoot

- 2 Black stands

- Reflector

- Light meter

- Grey card

- Extension cords

-  sandbag

-2 neut dens filter

-2 green filters

-cybersynch

Balls and Burger

Balls and Burger

Iso:200, F8.5 , 1/5sec, 45mm tilt-shift , shot with flash

I found this to be a very challenging assignment. The burger looked really bad and I had a hard time styling the food, keeping the beer foamy, and lighting the subject without getting light on the balls and killing  the ambient light. We gave up on the initial plan of the sign reflecting into the bar top and After taking over 100 pictures with a weired lighting setup we ended up trying just a flash on top of the plate with a piece of paper for diffusion and I think some white paper in front of the plate for bounce fill. This is the last picture I took and turned out to be the most decent looking one except of the flat looking beer to which I photoshoped the head of a previous picture. (it still looks flat thought) We were also hoping to shoot into lightroom but I had technical problems withe the laptop so ended up having to go with what we could see in the camera screen. The picture turned out too dark even though I checked the histogram... Overall I guess it looks ok and I'm pretty sure I've seen worse pictures in restaurant windows before.
I definitely learned that a soft light is better for food that a harsh one . We shot with grids for most of our time with which we struggled in vain to make beautiful

ALP 2 Food

PreProduction Notes

1.What is your intention in terms of how you plan to use the available light?

I want to use a bit of the available light and also the reflection of the neon sign for the shoe rental that says”shoes”. I will meter for the available light then do an exposure based on that

2. What is the reason for your lens choice?

(Do you want the compression of a long lens or the exaggerated perspective of a wide angle, fixed focal length or zoom)?

I want to get as much of the burger and sign reflection in focus

3. What aperture do you plan to use and why?

Maybe 5.6 or so to be able to get a bit of ambient light but also a somewhat big dof

 4. What shutter speed to you plan to use and why?

Probably a couple of second?? In order to capture some ambient light

 5. Do you have enough available light to achieve these camera settings?

We’ll see when we measure it..

 6. Do you have enough strobe to achieve these settings?

There will be plenty of strobe

 7. Do you have too much light to achieve these settings?

I don’t think so

 8. Are there any technical problems that will need to be addressed at the shoot or in post-production?

Mainly figure out a nice composition, and maybe using a gobo to block some of the strobe light falling onto the bar

 9. How will you be addressing color balance?

Will use tungsten gels and if not will deal with it in PS

 10. What is the equipment you will need for the shoot?

Profoto kit
 3 stands
Gobo
Tilt shift lens
4 extension cords (just in case)
Cybersinch 2 receivers (AA batteries)
Snoot
Magic arm
Tripod
Laptop
Small reflector

Are there any other special requirements or information

We might decide that the idea isn’t as good as thought and go with a different plan

ALP2 Ass2 Outdoor portrait

Pre production notes

Will shoot either on the stairs on the side of the cafeteria or the other side of the cafeteria, next to the theatre building. . The subject just cancelled on me so I ‘ll have to find someone tomorrow. I had a plan in case of rain but now it’ll depend on the person I find to photograph..

*Crappy cell phone pic

*even crappier cell phone pic

I want to borrow a wide angle lens from school for a distorted and interesting effect if not i will use my 18-55

1.What is your intention in terms of how you plan to use the available light?
Use a lot of the available light but also experiment with making it look like evening

2. What is the reason for your lens choice?
(Do you want the compression of a long lens or the exaggerated perspective of a wide angle, fixed focal length or zoom)?

I would like to get the exaggerated perspective of a wide angle

3. What aperture do you plan to use and why?
A pretty small aperture to have a big depth of field to be able to distinguish well the architectural components

 4. What shutter speed to you plan to use and why?
I don’t know because it depends on the light reading but no more than 1/250

 5. Do you have enough available light to achieve these camera settings?
There should be lots of available light

 6. Do you have enough strobe to achieve these settings?
One strobe will be plenty

 7. Do you have too much light to achieve these settings?
Shouldn’t be a problem with a small aperture

 8. Are there any technical problems that will need to be addressed at the shoot or in post-production?
Will probably have to clean up the garbage both in pre and post production

 9. How will you be addressing color balance?
Probably shoot with automatic or adjust accordingly. Could use graycard

 10. What is the equipment you will need for the shoot?
1. White lighting
2. Umbrella
3. Vagabond
4. Lightmeter
5. Sandbag
6. Stand
7. Cybersynch
8. Graycard
9. Reflector
10. 10-24 nikkor(if available)

Are there any other special requirements or information?
Gotta remember to take some notes about the person for the paragraph

Kyle in front of the Dawson theater entrance / Photo by: Ana Jovmir

The Love Of The Nightingale by Timberlake Wertenbaker was a great success for the 2nd Year Studio Production students of Dawson. Kyle, a first year law student at Dawson College has come to see his friend Victoria Smith who plays an extra in the piece. He was one of the many spectators that filled the lobby on the afternoon of October 1st, in anticipation of the play's last presentation.

Pre production notes

  1. Slight usage of
    1. daylight on side of face.
    2. Tungsten on statue
    3. Daylight on tree
  2. Lens 17-70mm 2.8-4 at 70mm to give a bit of a boukeh and compression
  3. F4 for biggest aperture to focus on the subject
  4. 1/160 to let some available light in but no motion blur –if more light needed can be reduced to 1/80
  5. I think so
  6. Yes
  7. No
  8. Have to make sure no branches stick out of the head from tree behind
  9. Will bring a graycard
  10.

Profoto kit

Med softbox

2 extension cords

Cybersync +2 reciver

3 stands

1 reflector

Self Assesment.

Iso 400          3.8          1/60

Ambient light 1/60 2.8

Main light 8’ from subject

Camera ~ eye level, 10 ‘ from subject, 50mm

Nikon D7000, Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 Os

1.       The natural  lighting worked pretty good.

2.       The lens  gave me problems in terms of focus. I ended up moving in closer and shooting at about 50mm because of the way the background fit in the composition

3.       F 3.8 isolated the subject pretty good but since the lens was shitty made the portrait slightly out of focus but decided to go with it anyway

4.       Shot at 1/60 to let in more ambient light

5.       The lighting was achieved successfully

6.        I switched the background light to the other side for better results

7.       ?

8.       Had to remove a small fixture on the wall in postproduction but managed to conceal the  strobe wires behind the subject which saved time in post production J

9.       Forgot the graycard...

10.   -Out of softboxes. Used a diffusion frame? In front of an umbrella (reflector side) for main light

-One of the receivers was busted and had to borrow of another student. Next time will bring extra

-barely had enough wire to plug into wall. Next time bring more extension cords
